Audio Stepper Switch

with 24 steps as high quality replacement for potentiometers in high end hifi amplifiers

 


This very high quality audio step switch can be used as replacement for potentiometers. The switch contacts are 3 µm gold plated. The switching mode is shortend. This is necessary for no level jumps or signal interruptions during switching. Because of the hard plated gold contacts, the use of high quality materials and massiv construction guaranteeing reliability and long life. The special solid construction provides an extremly high channel seperation.

Because of the 24 steps of this switch, the use of a mounting switch is recommended. The different volume ranges can be set in this way very sensitiv. The stepper switch is available with low noise 1% metal film resistors to realize all standard pot values in linear and logarithmic modes.

The following measurements refer to a stepper switch of 10 kOhms logarithmic as a replacement of a 10 kOhms stereo potentiometer.
 

Channel equality better than 0.1 dB
Channel separation >100 dB @ 1 kHz selectively measured
   96 dB @ 10 kHz selectively measured
Noise -95 dBV (20 Hz...20 kHz) (= 17.7 µV)

 

The measuring result of the channel seperation at 10 kHz is better than a physical noise of the resistors themselfes! With lower dimension of the resistors as 10 kW noise will be adequate lower.

The stepper switch kit is not available at the moment.

 

The standard values beeing in use for the audio equipment are 2.2 kOhms, 4.7  kOhms, 10 kOhms, 22  kOhms and 47 kOhms in linear and logarithmic characteristics. List of resistors will be attached.

Stepperswitch

Contacts and solder pins are silver plated, high quality switch, suitable for audio signal switching, interrupting switch mode , for print mounting or with solder lugs, nylon case inforced by glas fiberes, 6 mm shaft, number of switching positions can be selected by stopper.
